Meet the Event Team: Bonnie Ball, Event Sales Specialist

The next member of our team we’re excited to introduce you to is Bonnie Ball, Event Sales Specialist. A member of The Boathouse event team for seven years, Bonnie has over 20 years of experience in the industry. We love Bonnie’s best wedding tip (we couldn’t agree with her more), so we’re going to kick things off with that.

What is your best wedding planning tip?

This is YOUR wedding; enjoy it! Other people will try and give you advice and tips, but keep in mind that it is YOUR wedding day, and it is what YOU want that matters the most.

Why did you decide to work in the wedding/event industry?

When I was in college, I really wanted to be a chef but quickly realized that standing in the kitchen wasn't for me. I changed my major to hospitality management and got a job as a leisure sales manager for a hotel. Along the line, I made my way back to food through catering sales. The best of both worlds: events and food!

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

I’ve only had a total of five jobs! And my first job was selling Guatemalan jewelry and bajas at a kiosk in the mall.

What is your favorite thing about a wedding / reception at The Boathouse?

From simple decor to a Star Wars wedding march or a Gotham City wedding cake with personalized toppers, I love seeing how our clients personalize their big day.  When they are having fun with it, it makes it even more fun for us.

What’s your favorite season for a wedding, and why?

I love a winter wedding. Pricing is usually a little lower, and there is less competition for the wedding professionals you want to work with!

(Editor’s note: we recently posted a blog on the benefits of winter weddings. In case Bonnie’s response motivated you to consider winter wedding bells for yourself, you can read it here.)

What do you love about your job?

I love the people the most! I’m constantly meeting new people, and I get to work with some guests on a repeat basis. It’s special seeing couples again for other celebrations like baby showers and anniversaries -- we get a seat at some of the biggest days in their lives.

Questions? Feel free to ask Bonnie something that isn’t covered here in the comments below.
