The Boathouse Oyster

Did you know that November is VA Oyster Month? We're proud to serve VA oysters at our restaurants, and we're very excited to serve The Boathouse Oyster, one that we have had a part in cultivating from seed to table!

The Boathouse Oyster is the result of a project that started about 3 years ago when our chefs toured Chapel Creek Oyster Company's farm in the Chesapeake Bay. Trey Sowers, Chapel Creek’s owner and farmer, took us through the oyster farming process, and we got an idea--we could be a part of this! We could not only support, but work with, a local farmer to close the gap between farm and table.

Trey was immediately on board, so we started working on our signature oyster.  The goal was to grow an oyster that achieves what we believe is the ideal flavor profile.  And so we did!

The Boathouse Oyster has a satisfying savory flavor.  It’s mildly briny, a gentle reminder that it was harvested from the VA coastline just hours before it hits your plate. We feature our oyster in our roasted oyster appetizers as well as our oyster shooters. Of course, you can also just try them straight from the raw bar.

Check out the video below, filmed during our first trip to Chapel Creek Oyster Farm. We also encourage you to support the Virginia Oyster Trail, which we are a part of. Oysters keep our Chesapeake Bay clean, and they also happen to be delicious, so it’s a true win-win! Happy VA Oyster Month!
