Since I work for a family of restaurants, the food for my wedding was really important to me. And being social people in our early 30s, FH (Future Husband) and I have been to our share of weddings. Nine times out of ten, the food was just not impressive, and sometimes it was not very good. That’s not the way I want people to remember my wedding. The food and drink (alcohol) are to be highlights!
The Boathouse and Casa del Barco have always been proud to share Our Story by introducing our guests to the creators of their local food source. In March 2017, we are especially proud to feature The Boathouse Oyster.
I am not a traditional person and I did not want a traditional space for my wedding. I chose Casa del Barco because I think that the space, surrounding cityscape and food all have non-traditional personalities, too! I did have to face the facts though, that CDB is not a banquet hall, and while that’s part of it’s charm, it’s also part of the challenge I am facing with making the space not look like a restaurant. I wanted the ambiance to reflect US as a couple. So that’s why I turned to rentals.
After some time spent getting inspired at Belle Isle Craft Spirits’ distillery, our bartenders crossed the river to our Rocketts Landing location. There they were challenged to flex their creative muscles and make some unique and exciting cocktails using their new favorite spirit, moonshine.
Our Story events at The Boathouse have been a way for us to welcome vendors into our space and show our guests just where their delicious food or cocktails are coming from. This time around, we got to visit with Belle Isle Craft Spirits, our featured partner for February, and learned how they make their product from start to finish.
Our Story events create a platform for us to share our Virginia based vendors with our guests. In January 2017, we’ve featured two unique and growing companies at each of our locations. Now we want to share with you what they do, why they do it and why they love it so much.
Did you know that November is VA Oyster Month? We're proud to serve VA oysters at our restaurants, and we're very excited to serve The Boathouse Oyster, one that we have had a part in cultivating from seed to table!
